Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

Standard

Ben Stein’s documentary, due for release in April, certainly promises to be a movie to watch out for.

It claims to expose the suppression and persecution that some scientists and academicians have gone through for not going along with Darwinism. Life in academic institutions, world over, has not been easy for those who believe that nature points to intelligent design by a Master Designer. It has not been easy for scientists, professors, and students. It has not been easy for parents who have had to avoid the public school systems and home-school their children.

So this movie, whether or not it conclusively establishes anything, will be welcomed by many who long for freedom in institutions to speak both for and against matters such as faith and creation. Voltaire is supposed to have said: ‘I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.’ Where is such freedom today?

You might want to read this review before you welcome the movie:

  2. I have been in contact with the US publicity firm promoting this film. They have not been able to answer my question either.

I get the impression that if it is shown in NZ it will only be to church groups using DVDs.

  4. Hi Ken,
Thanks for the link to your article in Open Parachute.
To be duped by a clever film or a clever argument is not of any use to me or anyone else. So as far as this blog is concerned, please do not hesitate to point out anything fraudulent or illegal about this film or anything else to do with the subjects discussed here.
I do have to approve comments before they are published, but will approve them as long as they are level-headed and polite.

  5. Thanks for the invite.

The current legal problem the film has is a copyright issue – they copied a video on the workings of the cell without attribution or royalty payments. The producers of this video are of course put out as it cost them a lot to make and they usually get paid every time it is shown.

Fraudulent – well there is a lot. They didn’t give the full story of the people who were supposed to have lost jobs – in most cases they didn’t. Nor did they refer to people who have lost jobs, or been “persecuted” for their acceptance of evolutionary science (for example Christine Castillo Comer).

They claim that evolutionary science is “atheistic” – and purposely refused to exclude people like Ken Miller – an evolutionary scientist and Christian – and they admit that they didn’t want his message to “muddy their message.”

For me, as a scientist, I think the big lie is to present science as suppressing new ideas, or even debate within science. This is a big lie because science doesn’t work that way – it couldn’t have the immense success it has in understanding reality if it was.

The other big lie is of course their attribution of the Nazis and the holocaust to “Darwinism.”

So, you can understand why many scientists (and many Christians) are very angry about this film. That is why there is currently an effort to expose the film. A lot of the reviews, and articles exposing the film’s lies, are coming together on the Expelled Exposed website.

I have checked with the publicity firm handling the film – they say there are currently no plans to screen it in NZ. However, I think the viral marketing method they use means that some of the lies the film promotes will circulate here. That is why I think it is important to expose this film even in NZ.
